A triumph of feeling over technique as Glen Johnson and cohorts explore a doomed English romanticism, boldy linking contemporary romantic mores with the lost generation of 1914 - 18. That might make it sound either overly ambitious or embarassingly gauche, or both. But strangely it works, due to the straightforward, beautifully arranged music - a mixture of chiming guitars and processional rhythms which retains a certain raw appeal - underscoring Johnson's lyrical concerns.
