Magic hail from the same room in the art house that gave birth to
post-rock instrumentalists Rothko, but unlike them, they unveil
their saturated vistas of sound in a light infusion of melody and
choral vocals. The tracks on "Artists' Rifles" are ethereal, composed
of thick, opiated guitars, liquid chord droplets, elegant strings
and phantom sounds. But beautiful as they are, they would benefit
from a bit more mystery, a few more hairline fractures and a few
darker shadows in order to cast a more enduring spell.
