A triumph of feeling over technique as Glen Johnson and cohorts explore a doomed English romanticism, boldly linking contemporary romantic mores with the lost generation of 1914 -18. That might make it sound either overly ambitious or embarrassingly gauche, or both. But strangely it works, due to the straightforward, beautifully arranged music ˆ a mixture of chiming guitars and processional rhythms which retains a certain raw appeal ˆ underscoring Johnson's lyrical concerns.
