Another
brilliantly eclectic, dreamlike album, 'Popular Mechanics' echoes
the scary/beautiful experiments of Coil, or an aural rendering of
an animation by the Brothers Quay. The music is sometimes sinister
and hard-edged, sometimes melancholy, with child-like, female voices
used intermittently, to stunning effect - as on the musically moving,
lyrically chilling 'Wrong French.' A very precious, magikal record,
'Popular Mechanics' should find favour with fans of AC Marias, Kate
Bush, Boards Of Canada and the aforementioned Coil - seek it out.
