Three songs,
17 minutes; and it seems to go on for twice as long at least, but
that's not in any way a complaint. Piano Magic make a sound that
has a lot of depth, and though it may sound spare, or even minimal,
it always packs a wallop. The title track; fragile ectoplasmic fingers
reach out like sea-tossed tide-pool life, in slow motion, into the
void, feeling as lonely as lonely feels, with spoken vocals by Angèle
David-Guillou. Glowing in the darkness, warm within the chill. Flickering
neon smeared in city streets wet from the light evening rain. Blood
& Snow is the sound of a sentient comet cycling through eons of
time and space, gradually wearing away, reducing in mass, till all
that's left is empty space. A beautiful Cluster-like instrumental.
The Drowning of St. Christopher is a soft industrial slide show
purring like a kitten or a small organic motor, delicate guitar
filigree glint in the twilight. Glen Johnson starts to speak, it's
a road trip, we're in his random thoughts, there's poetry in this.
Quiet unhinging travel music with velvet gloves, spinning yarns
in the dark, and the hotel rooms are all haunted, uprooted, lost
and found.
