Dark Horses

Piano Magic release a new 4-track EP on October 27th 2008.  'Dark Horses' was recorded, mixed and mastered at Sound Solution in Hackney, London.  It will be released on the Make Mine Music label and be strictly limited to 1000 copies.

The tracklisting is :

1) Dark Horses
2) Stations
3) Vacancies
4) A Book I Should Not Read

Personnel for the tracks were Franck Alba, Angele David-Guillou, Glen Johnson, Cedric Pin, Alasdair Steer and Jerome Tcherneyan.

Earlier this month, a single 12" acetate copy of the EP was auctioned on eBay and was sold for a staggering £470 to a mystery French collector.  There are no plans to manufacture any other copies of the EP on vinyl or on CD after the first 1000 have sold.

The lyrics for the EP can be found on the lyrics page.

Piano Magic will be playing 3 special shows to promote 'Dark Horses' :

25 Oct - The Hope, Brighton (with July Skies, Avrocar, Junkboy)
8 Nov - AN Club, Athens
22 Nov - The Luminaire, London (with July Skies, Avrocar, Yellow6, Portal + Innerise DJS)

Plinth/Textile Ranch

On the same day, Textile Ranch, the solo project of Glen Johnson, releases a collaboration with Victorian music machinist, Plinth. 'The Rest, I Leave To The Poor' comes as one single 44-minute track on CD album in very special recycled chipboard packaging with red metallic letterpress finish. The record is the result of Johnson and Plinth (Mike Tanner) swapping files by Her Majesty's Royal Mail and features generous contributions from Angele David-Guillou (Klima) and Autumn Grieve. Again, the CD will be limited to a mere 1000 copies, never to be repressed. We suggest you buy both records toute suite.

PIANO MAGIC DREAM ON

Piano Magic have donated an exclusive track to the cover-mounted CD compilation accompanying issue 5 of the splendid Dream Magazine. 'The Inquest Of My Youth' was recorded in the 'Opencast Heart EP' sessions and features the superfluid Angèle David-Guillou on vocals.
Dream, curated and editored by Mr George Parsons is an awe-inspiring mish-mash of reviews, interviews, letters, original photographs and illustrations. It's a fascinating read, particularly as it eschews the dull-and-rich (Coldplay, Travis, Elton John) for genuine, believable, underground, distinctive and downright interesting artists. Issue 5 features, amongst other things, interviews with Robert Wyatt, Julia Vorontsova, Rick Griffin, Tom Rapp, Ghost, Terry Riley, Kemialliset Ystavat, Mushroom, Marissa Nadler, Gary Panter, Bipolaroid, John Trubee, Eclipse Records, Tinsel, Verdure, Testbild!, Sun City Girls, Crashing Dreams, Elf Power, Jonny Trunk, the Lost Domain, as well as a great, eclectic CD of live jams and home recordings. Past issues have also included rare "dream-inspired" tracks by Glen Johnson and all back issues are still available. Contact George at geo@gv.net or visit www.dreamgeo.com

GOING UNDERGROUND

Snubbed by the "popular" UK music press (not a single review of 'Disaffected' in any broadsheet or music magazine despite a generous mail-out to all their "champions"), Piano Magic take their fine fare to those who still fly the flag for the romantic and square. A charming review of the band's recent-ish London show features in this month's wonderfully illustrated Plan B magazine (alongside stuff about Sleater Kinney, Antony & The Glen Johnsons, Electrelane). Comes With A Smile magazine this month includes a hearty synopsis of the band's new album plus a brilliant cover-mount CD (Hood, Scout Niblett, Sam Prekop, Panda Bear, Six Organs Of Admittance, Josh Rouse, Stuart A. Staples, Arco, Monade amongst others) and an hilarious (non) interview with J Mascis who wears a burgundy Adidas tracksuit top over an Electro-Harmonix t-shirt in the accompanying photos.
Plan B can be found at : www.planbmag.com
Comes With A Smile can be found at : www.comeswithasmile.com
Coldplay can be found everywhere their label places a huge ad.

PIANO MAGIC D-SIDE ON NEW GOTH DIRECTION

D-side, France's premier Gothic music magazine, features an interview with Piano Magic this month (May/June, issue 28) as well as including "You Can Hear The Room' on its cover-mount CD (along with Foetus, The House Of Love, Queen Adreena, Adult, amongst others). You can also enter a competition to win the band's new album. All things dark can be found at : www.d-side.org

NEW PIANO MAGIC ALBUM OUT NOW

The new Piano Magic album, "Disaffected" is out now worldwide.  Piano Magic received an unprecedented page-and-a-half in the French daily newspaper, Liberation on 18/4/05. A two page "blind test" appears in this month's Magic magazine (www.magicrpm.com) along with the inclusion of the track, "Disaffected" on their sampler CD.

"Disaffected" can be purchased from all good record stores or from www.darla.com (North America), www.talitres.com (France) and www.greenufos.com (RoW). Otherwise, we recommend : www.roughtrade.com
The Green Ufos version of the album includes an exclusive track, "Jacknifed."  The Darla version includes an extended "club" mix of "Deleted Scenes."

Very Friendly Records releases the debut album by Textile Ranch

The solo project of Glen Johnson, on September 6th. "Bird Heart In Wool" has been described as "Not real music..." and should appeal to anyone who finds that description perculiarly enticing. The album, guitarless, boneless and made without the aid of microchip features guest contributions from Angele David-Guillou (of Klima/Piano Magic) and Steph Jaggers. Jaggers disappeared shortly after recording and was never heard of again. Find out why.

"Bird Heart In Wool" in all good record stores or try mail order at www.roughtrade.com
